Aliright Slacker, Get To It.

I have come to find that it is nearly impossible for me to post everyday unless I cheat and line several up in advance. I am just so into hanging out with my son while I have the opportunity, that time gets away from me. Here are the last few, and today's of course, weirdo holidays.

December 10 was "The Festival For The Souls Of Dead Whales" Day
December 11 was "National Noodle Ring Day"
December 12 was "National Ding-A-Ling Day"
December 13 was "Ice Cream And Violins Day"
December 14 was "National Bouillabaisse Day"
December 15 was "National Lemon Cupcake Day"
December 16 was "National Chocolate Covered Anything Day"

and today, drum roll please...

December 17, 2008 is "Underdog Day" woohoo, a holiday just for me and my brethren! Today is also "National Maple Syrup Day".

Decmeber 9

Today is "National Pastry Day". I have found it on several website, but alas, cannot find the origins of yet another weirdo holiday. Too bad I didn't know it until this morning, I spent most of the night baking!

A few missed holidays

December 5, 2008 was National Sacher Torte Day

December 6, 2008 was National Gazpacho Day and Mitten Tree Day

December 7, 2008 was National Cotton Candy Day, it was also Pearl Harbor Day in the land of non-weirdo holidays

Today is bum bum buh bum, Take It In The Ear Day.

Okay, so no one really knows where "Take It In The Ear Day" originated, but it has been marked on Calendar's for a while now. Also, it is not really known what the "it" actually is. Some people even wonder if ear is even the right word. Anyway, it's always December 8.

Thought you'd be interested to know that...

I've decided to add a section to this blog titled "The More You Know". It will be random facts that I think are interesting, and I would like to share. For instance, did you know the fingernails on your dominant hand grow faster than the other.

December 4. 2008

Today is "Wear Brown Shoes Day"

and since I didn't manage to wrestle the computer from the not better half, yesterday was "National Roof-Over-Your-Head Day"

A poem by Stephen Chbosky

Once on a yellow piece of paper with green lines

he wrote a poem

And he called it "Chops"

because that was the name of his dogs

And that's what it was all about

And his teacher gave him an A

and a gold star

And his mother hung it on the kitchen door

and read it to his aunts

That was the year Father Tracy

took all the kids to the zoo

And he let them sing on the bus

And his little sister was born

with tiny toenails and no hair

And his mother and father kissed a lot

And the girl around the corner set him a

Valentine signed with a row of X's

and he had to ask his fauther what the X's meant

And his father always tucked him in bed at night

And was always there to do it

Once on a piece of white paper with blue lines

he wrote a poem

And he called it "Autumn"

because that was the name of the season

And that's what it was all about

And his teacher gave him an A

and aske dhim to write more clearly

And his mother never hung it on the kitchen door

because of its new paint

And the kids told him

that Father Tracy smoked cigars

And left the butts on the pews

And sometimes they would burn holes

That was the year his sister got glasses

with think lenses and black frames

And the girl around the corner laughed

when he asked her to go see Santa Clause

And the kids told him why

his mother and father kissed a lot

And his father never tucked him in bed at night

And his father got mad

when he cried for him to do it

Once on a paper torn from his notebook

he wrote a poem

And he called it "Innocence: A Question"

because that was the question about his girl

And that's what it was all about

And his professor gave him an A

and a strange steady look

And his mother never hung it on the kitchen door

because he never showed her

That was the year that Father Tracy died

And he forgot how the end

of the Apostle's Creed went

And he caught his sister

making out on the back porch

And his mother and father never kissed

or even talked

And the girl around the corner

wore too much make up

That made him cough when he kissed her

but he kissed her anyway

because that was the thing to do

And at three A.M. he tucked himself into bed

his father snoring soundly

That's why on the back of a brown paper bag

he tried another poem

And he called it "Absolutely Nothing"

Because that's what it was all about

And he gave himself an A

and a slash on each damned wrist

And he hung it on the bathroom door

because this time he didn't think

he could reach the kitchen.
